Annotation of Figurative Language
Hosseini uses figurative language to describe the dreaded feeling of awaiting a falling bomb as the feeling of a defendant about to hear the verdict. He compares these two ideas because they create similar feelings. He uses this to help the reader visualize/feel the same way as the characters by using a familiar idea because not all readers would know what it is like to live in Afghanistan during this time period. This is also shown as a social issue because Afghanistan's unstable government interrupts daily life and causes people to be more cautious and feel uncertain of whether they would live to see another day.
